Welcome to the World of Design with UCEED

The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. It is the gateway to undergraduate design programs (B.Des) at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur. This exam is ideal for students passionate about pursuing a career in design and looking to join some of the best design institutions in India.

Understanding UCEED

UCEED is designed to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude for design, visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. The exam is open to students who have completed their higher secondary (10+2) or equivalent education.

What is the UCEED Entrance Exam?

UCEED assesses candidates through a comprehensive test focusing on various design aspects. The exam structure includes:

  1. Part A: Computer-based test
    • Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions: Questions requiring numerical answers.
    • Multiple Select Questions (MSQ): Questions with one or more correct answers.
    • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): Questions with a single correct answer.
  2. Part B: Drawing test
    • This part tests the candidate’s drawing skills, ability to draw products, people, or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
 
Detailed Breakdown of the UCEED Exam
  1. Part A: Computer-Based Test
    • Duration: 2 hours
    • Sections:
      • Visualization and Spatial Ability: Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test understanding of transformation and manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects.
      • Observation and Design Sensitivity: Ability to detect concealed properties in day-to-day objects and think critically about them.
      • Environmental and Social Awareness: General awareness of environmental factors such as climate, population, water, vegetation, pollution, weather, natural resources, etc.
      • Analytical and Logical Reasoning: Ability to look at information, be it qualitative or quantitative, and discern patterns within the information.
      • Language and Creativity: Understanding passages in commonly used English language and ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives and scenarios.
  2. Part B: Drawing Test
    • Duration: 60 minutes
    • Focus: Drawing skills, including the ability to draw products, people, or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
