The Design Club hosted by Architects and designers is a program offered by The Design Venue for high school and middle school students who are interested in design. The Design Club informs students about college study in design and raises awareness of the impact of design in all aspects of our everyday lives.

The skills in design thinking and creative experience gained at The Design Club can empower students on their path toward becoming innovative problem solvers and prepare them to tackle the challenges of the future.

Rising 5th-10th graders wanting to meet other creative students their age who are interested in art and design

Children who are curious about the world around them and have ideas for how to make it better

The Design Club projects challenge students to explore their creativity and critical-thinking skills while pushing them to try a range of techniques and media.

The exploration of the design process teaches children to question, make choices, generate alternatives, work collaboratively and create their own solutions to problems.

Learning about design as a way of thinking helps students apply skills in math, science, technology, reading, writing, and communication.

Children who attend The Design Club make connections between what they know and can do and ultimately broaden their awareness, understanding and navigation of the world around them.

Children encounter design around the clock: Whether it is the bed in which they sleep, the pencil they use for homework or the toy they play with in their free time. In most cases, they are not aware of the fact that every product they use in their day-to-day-life, features a very special design.

In order to acquaint children with the topic of design, The Design Club invites ten- to sixteen-years-old to join workshops of a special kind

We aim at fostering children’s creative talent and curiosity about their environment as well as equipping them with the basic principles of design.

The workshops are developed together with the architects and designers. They aim at nurturing exactly these skills with playful exercises. The children will do a journey of discovery together and explore how much design the natural world offers them. Thereby, they train their perception by “stretching” their imagination and learn to really see the things they look at.

At the end of the workshop, all discoveries of the participants will be collected and arranged as an overall picture. Their results – and thus their creative skills – will be documented in a special exhibition, which will be presented.
